Syria, Virginia · Blue Ridge Mountains · Est. on 5+ acres
The closest cabin to Old Rag. Steps to White Oak Canyon. A creek you can hear from bed, two ponds, and a shelf of good books.
Booking platforms add roughly 14–20% in service fees on top of what we charge — money that goes to the platform, not to the cabin.
Book direct and we split the savings down the middle: you pay about 10% less than the platform total, and the rest stays here in the mountains.
You get the same cabin, same calendar, a signed rental agreement, and secure card payment. We confirm every request personally within 24 hours.

Est. reading nook, 5+ acres
Step off the porch and onto the trail — no driving, no parking scramble. Birch's Library is the closest rental to Old Rag's Berry Hollow trailhead and a short walk from White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run.
The cabin sits on more than five private acres bordering Shenandoah National Park, with a bold mountain creek you can often hear from inside, feeding two ponds historically stocked with trout. You'll have the entire property to yourselves — no other guests on-site, just birdsong, moving water, and the occasional deer with opinions.
Inside is cozy, quirky charm: a bedroom with two custom captain's beds raised high so you wake to pond views, a futon in the great room for two more, a working antique phonograph with handpicked vinyl, and shelves of eclectic books that earned the cabin its name.
Across the walkway stands Potlikker House, an 1865 log cabin built by a Union soldier of the 16th Maine Regiment. It's closed to guests but rich in hand-hewn history — and yes, local lore holds that the cast-iron frame set into the path between the cabins came from Herbert Hoover's piano, salvaged from Camp Hoover.

Post-hike glass on the deck; live music many weekends.
Local beer, casual hangs, hiker-friendly.
Hearty family-style Virginia cooking; legendary apple butter.

Honest fine print
This cabin is rustic and truly immersed in nature. Guests who love that give us five stars — here's what to expect.
There's no reliable cell service out here — that's the point. Starlink Wi-Fi handles streaming and video calls; turn on Wi-Fi calling before you arrive. A landline is available for emergencies.
Ladybugs, carpenter bees, and the occasional field mouse visit despite our best efforts; bears, snakes, and ticks live in these mountains. If critters are a dealbreaker, we may not be your cabin.
The ponds run up to 9 feet deep and the creek is fast and slippery — beautiful, but please supervise children closely. The rustic setting may not suit little ones.
Indoor fires aren't permitted at this time, but the stone fire pit outside is all yours. Firewood is sold nearby.
Well-behaved, house-trained dogs stay for a $59 fee. Keep pups off the furniture, pick up after them, and crate them if left alone inside.
Check-in after 4 PM, checkout by 10 AM, 4 guests max, self check-in by lockbox. No trash pickup this far out — please pack out what you pack in. Exterior security cameras on the property.
We live in Arlington with our two kids and fell hard for this corner of Shenandoah. We host to share it — and we answer messages fast (Airbnb clocks us within the hour, 100% response rate). Book direct and you're dealing with us, not a call center.
